The Energise programme is delivered by Catch22 in partnership with Shell UK. Through this pilot, they can make the energy transition equitable.

Through the pilot of the Energise programme, Catch 22 support people from underserved communities not simply into immediately available roles, but into long-term good work provided by energy transition jobs.

Energy transition refers to the energy sector’s shift from fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption — including oil, natural gas and coal — to renewable energy sources like wind and solar.

In the UK, the Government has committed to ensuring that, by 2050, the level greenhouse gases that are produced by human activity are reduced by 100% from 1990 levels.

By taking a participant-led approach that is tailored to the needs of the individual, they will connect people to a variety of pathways into energy transition roles.

Catch 22 show people the possibilities on offer, and guide them along the way.

Every service user who participates in the programme will be given a dedicated Employability Coach who will offer tailored one-to-one support. This support will consist of employability upskilling such as CV building, cover letter writing, interview skills, wellbeing support (including confidence and motivation exercises), and employer expectation support (including interview clothing and journey preparation).

They will then take part in a series of Insight to Energy Transition Opportunities workshops, over the course of four weeks. These focus on what energy transition jobs look like, examples of industries that comply, and the positive changes that energy transition opportunities can bring.

Support does not end once a participant is placed into a role. Catch 22 will meet with participants on a monthly basis to discuss any barriers that they may be facing, and to provide financial support with travel expenses.

Yes! Recognising that everyone is different is key. Programmes are participant-led, which leads to some of the highest sustainment rates in the sector.

Catch 22 take a holistic approach, working with participants on a one-to-one basis, to help them to get into work and stay there.

At Catch22, employability programmes are not a quick fix. They equip people with skills for life, which is better for jobseekers, employers, and the wider economy,

Some of the roles that the Energise team might connect participants to include:

  • retrofit advisor,
  • solar panel installer,
  • EV charger installer,
  • smart metering,
  • smart energy advisor,
  • offshore wind technician,
  • recycling operative, or
  • green construction.
