The Growth and Skills (Apprenticeship) Levy builds on the Apprenticeship Levy and gives employers more ways to invest in skills. Levy-paying employers can use their funds to support apprenticeship training in their own organisation or transfer funding to another employer. Employers can transfer some or all of their annual transfer allowance and this is calculated using the previous year’s levy contributions and is currently set at 50% of that amount. 

New funds entering employer accounts from August 2026 expire after 12 months if unused. Funds that were already in accounts by 31 July 2026 keep their existing 24-month expiry period, so it’s helpful to plan ahead.
