Two leading learning providers rooted in the Liverpool City Region have been recognised on the national stage after success at the 2026 Apprenticeship and Training Awards in Liverpool.
Myerscough College was named winner of the Outstanding Apprenticeship Programme award for its sports turf apprenticeships, while TRS Training Ltd was highly commended in the Specialist Training Provider of the Year category at the ceremony on 3 March.
The awards took place during the annual Apprenticeships and Training Conference gala dinner at Exhibition Centre Liverpool, bringing together training providers, colleges, employers and policymakers from across the UK.
Run jointly by sector publication FE Week and the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP), and delivered in partnership with City & Guilds, the national awards celebrate organisations delivering outstanding apprenticeship programmes and workforce training. More than 650 nominations were reviewed by an independent judging panel, recognising innovation, employer partnerships and high-quality training that helps people develop careers.
Myerscough College recognised for leading apprenticeship programme
Myerscough College received national recognition for its sports turf apprenticeship programme, which was judged to be one of the most impactful and innovative in the country. With centres across the North West, including in the Liverpool City Region, the college is widely regarded as a leading provider of training in the land-based sector. It supports skills development for industries such as horticulture, landscaping, agriculture, animal studies, and sports turf management.
Myerscough College’s sports turf apprenticeships have been running for more than 25 years and help develop skilled grounds professionals working across football stadiums, golf courses and other major sporting venues. The programme has supported thousands of apprentices and continues to play a major role in shaping the future workforce of the UK’s sports turf industry.
TRS Training recognised for logistics training delivery
Liverpool-based TRS Training Ltd was also recognised at the awards, receiving a highly commended title in the Specialist Training Provider of the Year category.
TRS Training specialises in apprenticeships and workforce training for the transport, logistics and supply chain sectors, supporting employers to recruit and develop skilled HGV drivers, transport managers and other logistics professionals through apprenticeship and skills bootcamps.
The recognition continues the organisation’s strong track record, having previously been named Transport and Logistics Apprenticeship Provider of the Year in 2024.
Working closely with employers across the region and nationally, TRS helps individuals gain practical skills and qualifications that open the door to long-term careers in the logistics industry.
