CAREERS AND APPRENTICESHIPS WITH MERSEYSIDE POLICE
You can become a police constable via an apprenticeship with Merseyside Police…
Merseyside Police has been recognised several times as an apprentice employer of the year, reflecting their exceptional apprenticeship programmes. A career with them is stretching and rewarding because you would make a real difference in your community.
You can become a police constable via an apprenticeship with Merseyside Police, but apprenticeships can also help you step into other careers within the police service. Here are all the different apprenticeship opportunities available:
Contact resolution officer apprenticeship
As a contact resolution office, you are immersed in the day-to-day challenges of policing without being on the front line. It’s a role that requires you to receive crime training. The training for this role will last 15 months; at the end, you will achieve a level 3 apprenticeship in emergency service contact handling. You can expect the following during your training:
- Real-world, call handling experience
- Honing your skills in asking critical questions
- Developing your approach to listening attentively
- Coaching in how to record accurate and detailed information
You will hit the ground running as a fully-fledged contract resolution officer when you complete your training. You can look forward to a dynamic and exciting career supporting colleagues out in the community.
Clerical apprenticeships
If you prefer a supporting role that keeps the organisation running smoothly, the clerical apprenticeship is a fantastic pathway into the police service. In this operational and support role, you’ll assist officers and personnel with administrative and secretarial assistance.
Key features of the programme include:
- Award-winning training
- Substantial career growth opportunities, with most apprentices achieving promotions within 12 months of completing their apprenticeship
- An attractive starting salary with ample opportunity to apply for promotion.
This role is perfect if you enjoy organisational tasks, problem-solving, and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
Motor vehicle apprenticeships
Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for mechanics? A motor vehicle apprenticeship with Merseyside Police would see you train as a service and maintenance technician while earning professional recognition. This four-year programme includes:
- An attractive starting salary
- Hands-on experience working alongside an experienced team
- Weekly high-quality training from specialist instructors
At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll be a fully qualified technician with the potential to register as a professional engineering technician (EngTech). You get to put the letters after your name, and your qualification opens up wider opportunities in supervisory and management roles.
Police constable degree apprenticeship (PCDA)
If wearing the badge and helping protect the local community on the front line is your ambition, you can achieve this with a police constable degree apprenticeship (PCDA). Expect a three-year programme, a good salary and hands-on experience alongside undergraduate study. You will be heading towards graduating with a degree in policing.
Here’s an introduction to how it works:
- Classroom learning: Your apprenticeship begins in the classroom, in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University
- Accompanied patrols: The next step is to put your learning into practice on patrol with experienced officers
- Independent patrols: When ready, you will take on operational responsibilities independently
Within 12 months, you’ll be operational as a police constable, earning over £28,000 a year. And while you are making a positive impact on the region, your university tuition fees will be paid by the force.
