If you’re looking to gain new skills, move into a different career or improve your job prospects, a Skills Bootcamp could help you take the next step. A range of new Skills Bootcamps have recently become available in the region, offered by local specialist training organisations in partnership with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Skills Bootcamps are funded training courses for adults aged 19 and over living in the Liverpool City Region. They are relatively short compared with training courses such as apprenticeships or college programmes, usually lasting no longer than 16 weeks. Many are far shorter than that. They are designed to help people build the hands-on, practical skills that employers are looking for right now. The courses are flexible, short-term and focused on real jobs and industries where there are skills shortages.

A Skills Bootcamp is ideal if you are unemployed, or in a job and want to progress into a more responsible role, or a different role within the company. It’s also an option for someone who wants to change careers and do something different, or for someone returning after a period out of the workplace. Some Skills Bootcamps are suitable for freelancers and the self-employed.

To do a Skills Bootcamp in the Liverpool City Region, you need to be over 19 and live in one of the regional postcode areas. You can’t have undertaken another Skills Bootcamp since the 1st April, and you must have the right to work in the UK (or an approved exemption). You can’t be on another government-funded training programme at the same time.

Skills Bootcamps are free for individuals who are unemployed or for those who are employed but looking to move into a new role with a different employer.

Skills Bootcamps are a great way to upskill employers’ existing staff members, helping them move into new roles with new responsibilities. Many employers value these programmes because they offer an opportunity to quickly boost key skills within the organisation, helping the business grow.

Employers with fewer than 250 staff pay only 10% of the full cost of the Skills Bootcamp, and larger employers pay only 30%. The remaining cost is covered by funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Another way employers can benefit from Skills Bootcamps is by offering interviews and, potentially, jobs to any individual not already employed in their organisation who has completed the course. This is effectively a free recruitment service that provides you with skilled candidates to interview.

If you are an employer and interested in upskilling your staff or interviewing candidates who have completed one of the region’s Skills Bootcamps, please visit our Skills Bootcamp page to see what courses are available and if any of them deliver the skills your organisation needs. You can contact the relevant training organisation for any Skills Bootcamps that match the skills you need.
