The people & businesses behind our 2025 stories

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to look back at some of the inspiring individuals and local organisations we featured on BeMore this year. Their stories reflect the talent, resilience and ambition found across the Liverpool City Region. Behind the stories are career-changers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, apprentices and more!

It’s not a definitive list, but a snapshot of just some of the people whose journeys we were proud to share in 2025.

Mohan runs yoga teacher training courses through Shivayoga Liverpool, helping people turn a passion for wellbeing into a meaningful career. Having supported more than 1,000 trainee yoga teachers to qualify, his work combines personal growth with community impact, showing how purpose-led businesses can thrive while helping others succeed.

We explored how Wirral-based Spark Enterprise Hub supports young entrepreneurs, including Matthew Williams, founder of Helix Media. With access to mentoring, workspace and practical guidance, Matthew was able to grow his business and build confidence, highlighting the value of local enterprise support.

Project Manager Sharon Oluwakemi Lane leads a kindness-first employment project in Toxteth through the Transform Lives Company. The initiative connects residents with skills, support and opportunities, proving how community-based approaches can unlock real change.

This story highlighted how Sterling Plastering Change Academy is helping to secure the future of construction skills in the region. By investing in training and new talent, the academy is tackling skills shortages while creating clear routes into the industry.

Alfie Brown, Wirral Webs (May)

Alfie Brown, founder of Wirral Webs, turned creativity and determination into a growing sportswear business. His journey shows how confidence, originality and hard work can transform an idea into a successful enterprise.

We followed Eleanna through a typical working week as a GP receptionist in Liverpool while she studied towards a General Practice Assistant qualification. Her story offers a realistic look at career development in healthcare and the value of learning on the job.

After years of ambition, Sharon Pennington realised her dream of becoming an HGV driver. Supported by a Liverpool City Region Combined Authority-funded Skills Bootcamp through TRS, her story is one of resilience, determination and taking opportunities at any stage of life.

Sam from Avent Global Limited completed a freight forwarding Skills Bootcamp, also funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. The experience strengthened his skills and demonstrated how investment in learning benefits both individuals and businesses. Sam has since enrolled on an operations manager apprenticeship.

Yuliia’s journey from Odesa to the Liverpool City Region is a powerful story of adaptability and hope. Through local support and determination, she found new opportunities and began building a future in a new place.

We closed the year with Lisa John of SquareOne Training, who shared insights into navigating change within the IT sector. Her story highlights how continuous learning and adaptability are key to long-term career success.

These stories are just a tiny sample of the talent, entrepreneurial spirit and community-boosting projects to be found across the Liverpool City Region. We’re grateful to everyone who shared their experiences with LCR BeMore in 2025, and we look forward to telling many more human stories in 2026.
