Liverpool City Council has six regulatory and licensing enforcement apprentices who joined their licensing service in November 2019. They are on a two-year apprenticeship studying the level 4 regulatory compliance Apprenticeship.  Their role is to ensure compliance with all terms & conditions relating to licences for hackney carriage/private hire driver, entertainment and alcohol, business and street trading, highways and trading standards.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, these apprentices have adapted exceptionally well to assist colleagues on different teams in the service.  For example, while working remotely, they have been able to help the taxi licensing team with vehicle-renewal applications that has allowed the taxi-licensing supervisor and their team to focus on other urgent tasks during these challenging times.  Not only are they assisting the taxi licensing team, but they have also helped the environmental health team in addition to managing their apprenticeship assignments and receiving remote tuition.  They are proving to be an essential support to Liverpool City Council service provision during this pandemic.
