Liverpool City Region apprenticeship provider TRS has been recognised as the AAC Transport & Logistics Apprenticeship Provider of the Year. The award, bestowed at a gala dinner in Birmingham, solidifies TRS’s position as a foremost provider of logistics apprenticeships in the country.

Kevin Birch, Managing Director of TRS, expressed his pride in securing the prestigious accolade. He says, “Winning the AAC Transport & Logistics Apprenticeship Provider of the Year reflects our commitment to excellence in delivering logistics apprenticeships. We are honoured to represent the Liverpool City Region in achieving this recognition for our nationwide apprenticeship services.”

Logistics focus

TRS, which has its head office in St Helens, is one of the few logistics-focused independent learning providers rated excellent by employers on the Find An Apprenticeship website. It delivers apprenticeships nationally with over 1,200 apprentices trained at 467 different employer locations to date.

“TRS’s success is rooted in its adaptability and robust relationships with employers,” Kevin adds. “Staff members, recruited from the logistics industry, build relationships of trust with employers. We pride ourselves in remaining responsive at a micro level. In other words, we adapt curriculum content and delivery methods to meet the changing needs of logistics firms.”

Industry collaboration

TRS offers flexible training delivery, aligning online and face-to-face training timetables with the apprentices’ working patterns. Moreover, it actively addresses industry-wide challenges: to deal with the backlog of HGV driving tests post-COVID for example, TRS became an official DVSA test centre. TRS also collaborates with industry bodies to work with IFATE in helping shape apprenticeship standards.

TRS promotes diversity in logistics

A key differentiator for TRS is that it actively promotes diversity by employing female trainers to attract more women to logistics apprenticeships. Furthermore, it has secured funding to provide support for pre-apprenticeship language training for non-native speakers. Additionally, it excels at supporting apprentices with learning difficulties or disabilities to succeed at equal levels to those without.

Kevin added, “We are proud of our team’s hard work and proactive initiatives that have contributed to this success. Moving forward, TRS will remain committed to providing high-quality apprenticeship programmes. Specifically, our focus is to empower individuals with lifelong skills to meet the evolving needs of our valued employers in the region and nationwide.”
