This summer, The Rayne Trust will launch an open call for grant applications that practically support community leaders and organisations to enhance community centres in their areas, with a focus on those areas that experience some of the greatest social and economic challenges.

They are seeking to fund projects where the primary purpose is to deliver positive benefits to the widest range of people in the community, that are led by local people, and delivered in partnership with other local organisations including, where appropriate, statutory partners. The funded projects will be deliverable within 18-24 months and sustainable beyond our grant funding.

While this will only be able to support a small number of community-led projects with capital and revenue costs, the long-term ambition is the creation of a larger fund for community centres and community assets, drawing together a number of cross-sector partners to establish a pooled fund.

The grants made through the open call will provide inspiration and practical evidence to support the creation of this larger fund, ‘showing by doing’ the impact community spaces have on people, place and planet.

To support organisations receiving funding and the ambitions for a future pooled fund, the Rayne Trust will commission a capacity support partner and a learning partner to work through the open call and roll out of the grants.

The Rayne Trust is an independent grant-making charity which aims to build bridges between communities and acts as a catalyst in supporting new ideas or ways of working. The Trust works to develop and increase tolerance and understanding between communities of different backgrounds and to help bring people in from the margins of society.
