Apprenticeship summary

Bricklayers work on new build and refurbishment projects, from homes to large commercial sites. They lay bricks and blocks, prepare mortar, set out work and check alignment using hand tools. Work is mainly outdoors with our teams, following safety, quality and environmental and health and safety standards.

  • Lay bricks and blocks to drawings and specifications
  • Prepare and use mortar and damp-proof materials
  • Use hand tools and levels to check alignment
  • Work mainly outdoors, often at height
  • Work with site teams and other trades
  • Follow health, safety and environmental standards
  • 1 day a week attending Hugh Baird College to gain the practical skills and knowledge of the Bricklaying level 2 apprenticeship
  • 4 days in the workplace gaining skills and work experience

Potential employment after the apprenticeship dependent on successful completion of the apprenticeship and work-based performance.
