Case Study: Creative Writing
The Creative Writing course supports learners in writing a short story to be published in the class anthology. It also aims to increase confidence in the learner’s writing ability by providing them with the essential skills.
Thomas Philips was one of the learner’s enrolled on the creative writing course and was supported by tutors, Vicky Jones and Claire Hackney. Let’s hear Thomas’ story…
Thomas’s learner journey started with a significant lack of confidence in his own ability and being surrounded by people in his life who doubted his ability and chance of becoming a successful, published writer.
Over the 12-week course, Thomas achieved his personal learning outcomes of building his confidence in his own ability, increasing his own wellbeing and social/writing circle, and completing the writing of a short story which has now been published in our class anthology of which he now owns a copy.
At the start, Thomas didn’t think he would receive the validation of his writing talent but has gone from a blank page to published in just 12 weeks, and has also received the praise and support of the class to build his self-confidence going forward.
