What is the Sound! Music Hub Youth Board?
- Sound! is the Music Hub for Knowsley, Halton, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Warrington
- A music hub is a group of organisations that work together to provide music education for children and young people in a local area. Music hubs provide a range of benefits, including professional development for school staff, instrument loans, and access to music events.
- The Youth Board is a group of 12 young people who, collaborating with Music Hub staff, directly influence strategy and plans for the Music Hub.
Why Join?

- Gain experience: Develop leadership and teamwork skills and better understand what a future in music can look like.
- Meet Like-Minded Peers: Connect with other young music enthusiasts.
- Have fun: Create, participate in and attend exciting projects and events.
Who Can Apply?
- Age: 10-21 years old
- Location: You live or study in Sound! Music Hub’s footprint (Knowsley, Halton, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Warrington)
- Passion for Music: Whether you play an instrument, sing, play in a band, create and produce, enjoy live gigs, want to explore what happens backstage or just love music in general, everyone is welcome to join. No formal music qualifications are needed, and all genres of music are welcome and celebrated
- Commitment: Willing and able to attend one meeting a month with the option to contribute to additional events and activities
What would I do?
- You’ll attend meetings: Monthly meetings to input into how music is taught and how opportunities to engage with music are programmed and delivered in your area
- You’ll have the chance to get involved in projects: Help plan and get involved with music education initiatives such as performances, campaigns and social media takeovers
- You’ll engage your community: Represent the group at local events and outreach activities in your area, where appropriate.
- You’ll give feedback and ideas: Your ideas and feedback will be what makes Sound! Music Hub tick! Share your thoughts on improving music education and other music initiatives.

- An Inclusive Environment: We welcome all abilities and backgrounds and have a zero-tolerance policy on any forms of bullying and harassment.
- Support Provided: Need assistance? Let us know how we can help. No adjustment is too big or too small.
- Flexible Participation: Options for virtual meetings and flexible schedules are available to make things work for you.
- Expenses Paid: Food is provided, and expenses incurred as a result of participation e.g. travel are covered.
How do I apply?
To apply, we’d love you to answer the following questions:
- What would you want to change about music in your school or local community?
- Why do you want to join the Sound! Music Hub Youth Board?
- Who is your favourite musical artist and why?
Apply in the way that suits you. We don’t mind how you get in touch; we just can’t wait to hear from you.
Important information for under 18s: We want to hear your opinion too, BUT we want to do this safely. If you are under 18, please could you ask your parent or carer to send us your application.

- Face to face: Better in person? No problem. Give Zoe (our EDI Lead) a ring on 07795627241 and we’ll arrange a face-to-face appointment
Don’t forget: We also need to know your name (and your parent/carer’s name if you are under 18) , your age and which borough you live in (e.g., St Helens or Warrington) as well as how best can we contact you(e.g., email/phone number – this must be your parent/carer’s contact info if you are under 18).
All videos, recordings and contact details sent to Sound! for application purposes will be deleted if you are not selected to join the Youth Board.
Deadline: Applications close on 5th January 2025 at midnight
What happens next?
After the deadline has passed, Sound! Music Hub’s team will review the applications and invite a range of applicants to an informal interview so we can tell you more about the group, learn more about you and you can learn more about Sound! Music Hub. Following this, we will confirm group members.
