LATEST HIGHER & DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP LISTING PUBLISHED

The number of employers developing structured degree apprenticeship programmes continues to grow..
It’s that time of year again! Every October (and April), the Amazing Apprenticeships higher and degree apprenticeship opportunity listing is updated, with up to 1,000 people downloading it each day. The listing contains a wide range of apprenticeship vacancies at levels 4, 5, 6 and 7 (higher and degree).
It’s no surprise that an increasing number of students are choosing a higher or degree apprenticeship over a traditional university route. Like all apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships let you earn while you learn, avoid university fees, and graduate without student debt. On a degree apprenticeship, you are employed, doing a proper job whilst studying with a university or higher educational establishment.
If you don’t know much about them, find out everything you need to know about degree apprenticeships in our feature, Spilling the Beans on Degree Apprenticeships.
The extended experience
In 2025, the number of employers developing structured degree apprenticeship programmes continues to grow. Many larger employers recruit several degree apprentices at a time, some or all of whom may relocate from other parts of the country. These companies often support their degree apprentices by helping them find shared accommodation, arranging social events, and fostering a sense of community.

Applying for a degree apprenticeship
To get onto a degree apprenticeship, you will usually apply directly to the employer, who will partner with a university or other learning provider for your ‘off-the-job’ study.
Each employer decides on its own recruitment process for its degree apprenticeships. We’ve spotlighted two degree apprenticeship employers in our region to show how recruitment can vary from company to company.
Example: Merseyside Police
Merseyside Police has been recognised as one of the UK’s leading apprenticeship employers.
Its Police Constable degree apprenticeship lets you start hands-on as a student officer while receiving protected study time. The recruitment process is individual to the force:
- Before you start, they advise you to check your eligibility
- Next, you’ll complete an application form
- Following this, there are online assessments that include situational judgement, a video interview, and a written exercise.
- If successful, you’ll be invited to an in-person interview
Before you are offered a place, you will need to pass fitness and medical tests, as well as other vetting, including a review of your personal history.
Example: Weightmans
Weightmans, which has offices across the UK, including in Liverpool, offers 6-year degree apprenticeships. Their application process includes:
- Written application
- Online assessment
- Virtual interview
- Attendance at an assessment centre where you will take part in a group exercise and undertake a written assignment.
Apprenticeship levels recap
Here’s a reminder of the different degree apprenticeship levels:
- Level 4 and 5 – Equivalent to a foundation degree or HND/HNC
- Level 6 – Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and may involve studying for a professional qualification either alongside or instead of a degree
- Level 7 – Equivalent to a master’s degree (from January 2026, whether your fees are covered will depend on your age and circumstances)
Bear in mind you may need the same entry qualifications as university applicants. If you don’t achieve the grades for a full degree apprenticeship, consider starting with a Level 4. This route will give you industry experience and can lead to a degree apprenticeship later in your career.
